Cultural/Academic Activities & Accomplishments
An annual function is held every year, usually during the month of May, where prizes are given to the students as well as the their guardians and staff-members of the school as recognition of their respective performances during the previous year. The students perform cultural activities under the guidance of the teachers.
A semi-structured journal entitled ‘Autism Helpline’ is brought out by us at intervals, though not regularly. Till now we could publish two volumes of the same, the first in September 2001, and the second in August 2003. Those contained some valuable contributions from eminent personalities, both national and international. Though both the issues were acclaimed by its readers, its publication could not be made regular because of financial and allied problems.
The school has completed and submitted the research report on “THE EFFECT OF MUSIC ON AUTISM” funded by Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of West Bengal. The report was already presented in two parts in two esteemed National level conferences and communicated to a scientific journal for publication.
The organization has also been selected as a member of Local Level Committee of National Trust in the year 2004 by the board members.
Human Resources Development Programme
has also been started by the organization. In the year 2003 a course of ‘Care Giver Training – Level III’ recognized and sponsored by the National Trust was conducted successfully. This year, in 2005, the second term of the course has started on February,28th and still continuing. Now we are going to start other two prestigious courses. The first one is Diploma in Special Education, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, approved by RCI and sponsored by National Trust, New Delhi. This course is first in West Bengal and fifth in India. The second one is the B.Ed course in Special Education (correspondence), This self-financed course is under Netaji Subhas Open University and approved by RCI. A separate accommodation has also been rented for holding these programmes.
Earlier there had been no book on Autism in Bengali earlier. One such has been written by the Honorary Director of the school. Though a small and concise one, it has met, to some extent, a long felt need of those Bengalee parents who are not comfortable in English or other non-vernaculars.
The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) has allotted a land, measuring about 7,000 sq. ft., on lease for 99 years at a cost of Rupees two lakh. We have a plan to construct a building of our own which will house not only the school but a vocational training center, a conference hall, a home for Autistic Children with maximum possible amenities etc. But we are not quite sure how and from where the fund will be arranged and thus we don’t know when our dreams will come true.
In a state level competition on Music and Dance, organized by Bodhayan, one of our students Punnotoya Majumder, secured third position in solo performance on Dance. In another state-level competition on Music and recitation, two of our children, Shouvik Goswami and Sudipto Barua secured 2nd and 3rd position in song and recitation respectively

Two of them contested in the Young Scientist Competition. We are glad to inform that one of them was declared first in the sub-section, viz., autism, of on mentally disabled group.
Two of our teachers, Kakali Kar and Sudipa Bhadra, stood First among the candidates of West Bengal in DSEMR exam in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 respctively. Other two teachers also obtained First Division in the same exam.
In 2005, it is our great pleasure to inform that Pradip has been awarded with this year's 'P.S.Chakraborty Stree Shakti Social Welfare Samman' as a mark of recognition to our work in the field of disability. The award giving ceremony was held on 14.2.05 at Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata.
